Independent singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist
Ritvik Virmani has released his latest English music video, ‘Train To Nowhere’, a deeply
evocative rock track that draws inspiration from the life and works of German painter Otto
Dix.
Released on April 3, 2026, coinciding with Good Friday, the track unfolds as a cinematic and
emotionally layered experience, both sonically and visually. The official music video is now
Live.
The concept for the song emerged during Ritvik’s visit to the Otto Dix Haus on Lake
Constance, Germany. Being in the artist’s personal studio left a lasting impression on him,
prompting a deeper reflection on how war altered Dix’s artistic voice, most notably through
Der Krieg, a body of work that stripped away romanticism and confronted the stark realities
of conflict.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Ritvik shares, “Train To Nowhere traces its emotional movement from the life of Otto Dix, a painter divided by World War I. Before the war, his work carried a sense of direction and certainty. But what he witnessed in the trenches changed everything. He returned unable to depict beauty without feeling dishonest. ‘Der Krieg’ became his truth, raw, unfiltered, and deeply human. When I stood in his studio, I felt the silence of that transformation. That stayed with me. The song follows a similar emotional arc—rebellion, rupture, and the lingering aftermath of internal conflict. Like his life, the train never really stops; it just moves forward, leaving innocence behind.”
Musically, ‘Train To Nowhere’ is structured as a gradual evolution—beginning with urgency
and intensity before transitioning into a more reflective and atmospheric soundscape. The
accompanying visuals mirror this journey, focusing on emotional movement rather than
physical destination, reinforcing the song’s core theme of displacement and introspection.
