Following her complaint, Mumbai's Goregaon Police Station registered an FIR on July 31, 2026. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), Section 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), Section 352 (intentional insult), and Section 3(5) (common intention).
Timeline of Events According to the FIR
Initial Meeting & Marriage: Aditi met Abhineet in June 2021 during an online acting class. After dating for a few years, they moved into a rented flat in Goregaon in September 2024 and tied the knot on November 12, 2024, with the consent of both families.
Behavioral Change & Financial Strain: In her statement, Aditi alleged that within days of the wedding, her husband's attitude altered. He allegedly began picking fights over trivial domestic issues, objecting to her choice of clothes, and demanding money from her instead of contributing to household expenses.
Escalation & Accusations: On January 1, 2025, an argument over morning coffee escalated into verbal abuse. Aditi claimed her husband subsequently started suspecting her fidelity, questioning her character, checking her phone regularly, and sleeping in a separate room.
Withholding Stridhan: The complaint further alleges that her mother-in-law retained her bridal jewellery—including gold chains, rings, a diamond ring, a mangalsutra, and gold bangles—and refused to return them despite repeated requests. When in-laws stepped in to resolve marital disputes, they allegedly supported her husband and subjected her to further mental distress.
Previous Strains & Media Statements
The couple's turbulent relationship had previously surfaced in March 2025, when Abhineet and his legal counsel spoke to the media, accusing Aditi of having an extramarital affair with her co-star. At the time, Aditi had responded by stating that she faced "unbearable marital disputes" shortly after marriage and was pursuing legal recourse for a divorce.
Official Investigation Status
Goregaon Police have confirmed that an investigation led by Assistant Inspector Amita Marathe is currently underway. No arrests have been made as police continue to record statements from the involved parties.
