The decision is a structural one, aimed at building the distinct worlds of Ayodhya and Lanka before their inevitable collision in Part 2.
The "Two Kingdoms" Strategy
In an interview with Fandango today, Yash clarified why the two superstars won't be seen together just yet:
The Structural Split: "Interestingly, we both have never come together on screen in this film. As you all know, it's a two-part film. So, in the first part, as Ravana, I have my own kingdom, and Rama has his own kingdom," Yash explained.
The Narrative Focus: Part 1 will focus on the separate journeys of Lord Rama (Ranbir Kapoor) and Ravana (Yash), establishing their ideologies, their empires, and the circumstances leading up to the conflict.
The Clash: The grand meeting and subsequent war between the two are being reserved entirely for 'Ramayana: Part 2', scheduled for a 2027 release.
Off-Screen Chemistry & Mutual Respect
Despite the lack of shared scenes, Yash was full of praise for his co-star:
Fabulous Dynamic: He called Ranbir a "fabulous actor" and noted that they have met several times to align their vision for the film.
Single Agenda: Yash emphasized that for a project of this scale (budgeted at a staggering ₹4000 crore), ego is not an issue. "All of us have a single agenda: to give our best to present this story. Our visions are aligned, so the chemistry's not even an issue," he added.
Nitesh Tiwari’s "Humanized" Ravana
Director Nitesh Tiwari has also been vocal about why Yash’s Ravana won't just be a "villain" in the first part:
The Scholar King: The film aims to show Ravana as a multi-faceted character—a great warrior, a benevolent king, an accomplished musician, and a devoted Shiva bhakt.
The Layered Approach: By giving Ravana his own "world" in Part 1, the film intends to show how a man with such immense qualities could eventually be undone by his ego.
'Ramayana: Part 1' Quick Guide
Feature Details Release Date Diwali 2026 (Late October) Director Nitesh Tiwari Music A.R. Rahman & Hans Zimmer Costume Reveal Yash’s gold-and-black armor and crown were unveiled today at CinemaCon. Ranbir's Dual Role Reports from April 8 confirm Ranbir is also playing Parshurama in the film.
SantaBanta Verdict:
By keeping the two icons apart in Part 1, the makers are taking a massive "creative risk" to ensure the world-building is solid. While some fans might be disappointed to miss the immediate fireworks, this strategy ensures that when the two finally meet in Part 2, the impact will be cinematic history. For now, we'll have to be content with seeing Rama in Ayodhya and Ravana in his fabled Pushpak Vimana.
