Says a source, "The film is getting mixed reviews, but has managed to pull crowds to theatres. Audiences have loved Ranbir and Deepika in the film and after seeing the weekend figures, the film is expected to do well on weekdays."
According to Amod Mehra, "After the success of the leading pair's last film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' (2013), this one was supposed to being in huge crowds but the flick opened to average houses on Friday. However, with critics having loved it, the numbers grew steadily on Saturday and further on Sunday. The film will have to maintain the momentum or it will end up losing money, as it is a big-budget film. One aspect that cannot be ignored is that although it is going strong in multiplexes, it is being rejected in single screens."
Trade expert Taran Adarsh also stresses on the fact that the film needs to hold fort during weekdays. He says, "'Tamasha' has been liked by the niche audience and did a good business over the weekend. But the real test is now. The film needs to do well on weekdays as well as its an expensive film. So let's wait and watch."
Meanwhile, Diwali release 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' maintained its slow run at the box office in its third weekend. The film minted Rs 3.10 crore last week, taking the total collections to Rs 206.63 crore in India.
