There is a dialogue in the film which says, "Kuch Rishte Karz Ki Tarah Hote Hain, Unhein Nibhana Nahi Chukana Padta Hai", this dialogue goes exactly with the narrative of this film that no matter what we have to drag this film till the climax.

Kalank has been set in 1940's Hussainabad where Roop (Alia Bhatt) gets married to Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur), who is a son of Balraj Chaudhry (Sanjay Dutt) and is already married to Satya (Sonakshi Sinha) who is suffering from cancer and her last wish is to see her husband getting married again.


In this course, Roop goes to Bahar Begum (Madhuri Dixit) to learn singing and there she meets Zafar (Varun Dhawan), who is an unwanted child of Bahar Begum and Balraj Chaudhry. Both Roop and Zafar get close and form a relationship.

While all of this is happening there is a parallel track of partition and independence.


Just like you got confused while reading this, lots of characters in the film seem lost because of this complex narrative. The first half of the film has been dragged to an extent and Abhishek Varman who has written the screenplay and has also directed the film has taken too much time to establish all the characters in his story.


Till the time the audience get involved in the film, it gets too late. The climax scenes are good but again it was too late to hold the audience's attention.

The sets and the costumes are splendid. The music is the saving grace of the film, the dialogues are good but in some places, they go overboard.


All the actors are seasoned actors and they know their capabilities and they have delivered their best. Alia Bhatt is on top of her game. Varun Dhawan has once again impressed us all. Aditya Roy Kapur is good with his expressive abilities. Sonakshi Sinha, Kunal Kemmu are good on their parts. Madhuri Dixit is the epitome of beauty and grace. Sanjay Dutt doesn't have a meaty role still he is good.

Overall we can say that Kalank should be watched only for its stunning visuals and great cinematography.
