The first-ever superhero television show that aired on Doordarshan in the late '90s was 'Shaktimaan'. A show in which Mukesh Khanna played the role of Shaktimaan and his alter ego 'Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri', a photographer for the newspaper Aaj Ki Aawaz. In the show, Shaktimaan was depicted as a human who has attained superhuman powers through meditation and five elements of nature: Space, Earth, Air, Fire, Water. The show was quite famous among children and is still watchable by many people. Now, it has been said that the Shaktimaan trilogy is planned to go on floors in the second half of 2021. For this, Mukesh Khanna is planning to rope a big Bollywood actor and has a plan to produce a film on the big level that will match the international standards.

Talking about the project, Mukesh Khanna told an entertainment portal, "An entire generation has grown up watching and learning from Shaktimaan. I have been promising Shaktimaan fans for a while now that Shaktimaan 2.0 is coming up. So, I am more than happy, and feel extremely responsible towards fans who have literally grown up with me. I have always said 'Vijayee bhava' to everyone, but now I think I need to say the same to myself. May God be with me."

He further added, "I can't reveal who we are considering to play the new Shaktimaan. The final announcement will happen when the deal is sealed. Shaktimaan has to be bigger than Krrish and Ra.One [2011]. It has to be an Indian franchise with international standards."

'Shaktimaan 2.0' will be helmed by Mukesh Khanna and Shaktimaan's co-creator Dinker Jani. The duo is also planning to sign a suitable director for the project. Although, it is speculated that the project will be essayed in the blockbuster series that aired on Doordarshan from 1997 to 2005. Earlier, 'Shaktimaan: The Animated Series' was released in 2011, and a television film titled 'Hamara Hero Shaktimaan' in 2013. Hopefully this time, the speculated 'Shaktimaan 2.0' will go on the floors soon and we will be able to watch Tamraj Kilvish, Shaktimaan, Geeta Vishwas and other characters from the serial once again.
