The last and perhaps first time an entire song in an Indian film was shot in a single shot it was Roop tera mastana for Shakti Samanta's Aradhana.
"Don't know how how Shakti-da did it thirty years ago. The poor cameraman must have been scampering all over the place trying to capture Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila
Tagore. But what a song!" says Anubhav Sinha appreciatively.
After decades another single-shot song(meaning the shots aren't divided and the entire sequence is shot in one camera movement) has been done for Anubhav Sinha's
Cash, and this time there were five actors...Ritesh Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, Shamita Shetty and Dia Mirza sharing screen space.
Says Anubhav, "Initially I wanted to drop this song entitled Naughty naughty from the film. It just didn't fit in. Then I decided to do something different with it. It was really
tough getting all the characters and their movements down in one shot.
We would zoom in one couple and then follow another couple down the corridor...and so on
and so forth. It was quite a challenge to do a single-shot song with so many actors. But finally it was fun."
Incidentally Anubhav reiterates this is the first single-shot song since Roop tera mastana. There was a rumour that Chale jaise hawayen in Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na was
also done in one shot.
However the claim appears unjustified.
