Bollywood actor Salman Khan, sentenced to five years jail in Chinkara poaching case, should be made the face of wildlife protection, says activist-cum-actress Nafisa Ali Sodhi.

"Well, that should be his punishment. His real life experience will help in passing on the message. We need productive members in our society, where people like Salman get a second chance to pass on a positive message," says the former Miss India.

"Poachers are the biggest threat to the wildlife," adds the actress.

"Salman has just been made an example, and it's nothing but heart-breaking," Nafisa says at an art exhibition here.

Nafisa feels that celebrities are being targetted for their status and popularity. "That's due to the system of celebrity-hood but it's getting counter-productive than being otherwise," she says adding, "Some people are doing it for their share of '15 minutes of fame' as they get to read about themselves. That's what it is all about."

Recently, a policeman was suspended for being hugged by Sanjay Dutt, when the actor came out of Yerwada jail in Pune where he was serving his six years' term before getting bail.

She says it wasn't right to punish the constable for getting Munnabhai's Jaadu Ki Jhappi. "It's senior police official's job to tell his subordinates about the protocol," she says, and defended Sanjay Dutt by saying, "He's (Dutt) not a criminal or terrorist. Instead, he's a highly loved human being and a role model in India."

Nafisa, who heads Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), is unhappy with the Bollywood filmmakers for ignoring children's films.

"Beside children's film, there have been some commercial films which were lapped up by kids like 'Krrish', Koi...Mil Gaya', etc, and more recently 'Chak De! India'. Filmmakers don't realise the potential in the genre, where target audience is ready-made."

However, she is now looking forward to this year's International Children's Film Festival which starts on November 14th every year at Hyderabad. "We have got some 178 films from about 38 countries across the world. Moreover, we are also looking at an increased budget, from 2.3 crores to 11 crores, for the society in 11th Five year plan."

Nafisa has acted with superstars like Shashi Kapoor ('Junoon'), Amitabh Bachchan ('Major Saab'), Mammootty ('Big B') and lately with Dharmedra in 'Life in a...Metro'.

Recalling her shooting days with 'Veeru' she says, it was wonderful as they shared food and got ample time to catch up on old times.

"Especially because I and my husband, Dharmendra-Hema and Vinod Mehra-Bindiya Goswami got married and even had our honeymoons around same time. So we bonded really well," quips the ever gorgeous actress, who will next be seen with Vinod Khanna in Hriday Shetty's 'Godfather', an Indo-Pak production, and 'Lahore'.

"It's been wonderful working with such big stars. I get a lot of inspiration from them," says Nafisa adding that she loves being in front of the camera.

She adds that it's the greatness of the film industry that she's getting films despite leaving it 30 years ago after 'Junoon'. "It feels great but I am quite sentimental about it that I am still getting good roles," she says.
