Yash Raj films' box office woes have continued with flopping of their animation film Roadside Romeo. Hollywood giant, Walt Disney had chosen Yash Raj Films as its partner for animation films it wants to make
animation films for the Indian and Hindi-speaking market.
Industry sources reveal, "The budget of Roadside Romeo was around Rs. 23 crore but now if the box-office collections of the first week are any indication, the film has entailed a loss of more than 50% of the
investment.
This animation film failed to strike a chord with the audience because of which even the neat animation job was given a royal ignore by the public."
A Bollywood Trade Pundit states that, "Indians are an emotional lot and they give maximum weightage to the story. However, producer Aditya Chopra and writer-director Jugal Hansraj seem to have given more
importance to the animation.
The result has been bad for both, the producers and the future of animation films in India! Frankly, Disney and Yash Raj Films should not have invested such a huge sum of money
on an experimental film. After all, animation films are still experimental as far as the Hindi film-going audience is concerned."
Yash Raj is now heavily banking on Shah Rukh Khan starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi releasing on December 12th to bring a sea change to their dwindling fortunes!
This film is also special for the mega banner as
Yash Raj head honcho, Aditya Chopra is not only making a comeback to direction after 8 long years but also because they are confident that the SRK – Adi jodi will strike a hat trick with this one after the super
successful Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge (1995) and Mohabbatein (2000).
