Director Priyadarshan is launching South Indian actress Trisha in Bollywood with his Akshay Kumar starrer Khatta Meetha.

Trisha's role in the film will be more challenging than the roles that have been played by heroines in a Priyadarshan film. It requires her to play two characters in different time periods.

Trisha was launched in Tamil movies too by Priyadarshan with his Leysa Leysa. Khatta Meetha promises to be a family film, kind of similar to Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's films.

This is the first time a heroine in a Priyadarshan film will have such an important role.The reason Asin rejected De Dana Dan was because she didn't want to have a limited role.

Finally, Katrina Kaif was roped in as she had a warm camaraderie with Akshay.
