In January 2010, Mehra and his fiancé Nisha Rawat surprisingly opened an acting school RIRO (Reel In; Real Out). In less than five months, RIRO has been getting good response. They've also managed to provide employment opportunities to a few applicants. Through acting, RIRO is doing social work by enrolling street kids.
"I didn't expect such response in a short span of time. Our students have done well, and they are getting work in TV shows and ad films. Besides, the small kids have responded really well to our workshop.
We've associated ourselves with organization that looks after street children. We've managed to pick a few such children and provide them basic training. Apart from acting, we've stress on the importance of discipline in life. Our main goal is to make these street kids become self confident" said Mehra who plays Naitik in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame.
At 28, isn't he too young to be doing social work?
"Frankly speaking, I always wanted to do social work. However, the credit has to go to Nisha. She's the one who's motivated me to indulge into these activities. You get immense pleasure in helping others, " replied Mehra.
Have his female fans thronged to the school?
"There were few but we've managed to change their attitude. Most think I'll be present to impart training. However, it never happens like that. I seldom get time to go to school. There are professionals who impart all the training. At best, I've only shared my experience, " the actor sighed.
