"These services will reduce pollution, bring down traffic congestion and has the potential to keep a large number of private cars off the roads for the benefit of the people, " Nirupam said on the occasion.
The air-conditioned buses would offer on-board television entertainment, music, vend newspapers and magazines, drinking water, snacks and beverages and other such services for the 45-km journey from Borivli-Colaba and the 25-kms route from Borivli-Bandra Kurla Complex.
Unlike the regular BEST services, the Green Bus Expresses would ply over all the flyovers in Mumbai and the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra-Worli Sea Link, enabling good savings in time.
Depending on the public response, the services would be gradually extended to other routes in the city.
