Mob frenzy in Diu on Saturday forced Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu to cancel shooting for the day. The stars were shooting for Kumar Mangat Pathak's Akrosh when a 12000-strong crowd gathered on the streets sparking security concerns. Producer Kumar Mangat notes, "This is Ajay's fourth visit to Diu.
He has shot here before for Qayamat, Zameer and Blackmail and he's extremely popular with the people here. When a local paper wrote that he was shooting here, a huge crowd gathered and we finally had to cancel the shoot."
Mangat adds that though he had arranged for security, it was impossible for the guards to handle the crowds. "They kept pushing through the cordon and turned up wherever we were putting up the sets.
People were taking videos, photographs using flash and disrupting the shoot. It was chaotic! However, I instructed the security not to be rude or use violent tactics as there were children and ladies. We finally had to pack-up."
The next day, Mangat, Devgn, Bipasha and a handful of the crew went on the sets at 7 am and put up a 2 km radius cordon around the sets. "We also got more security officers, home guards as well as guards from Mumbai and finally completed the shoot yesterday. We had to ask for extra security and the Diu police to personally come to the shoot yesterday."
Mangat says this is the first time that they have had to pack up during a shoot. "There was a crowd problem in Lucknow too during Omkara but we managed to complete the shoot then."
After the AJ-Bips song, Akrosh finishes shooting and releases on October 1 this year. The film is based on a newspaper report of an honour killing in Bihar. Ajay Devgn and Akshaye Khanna play CBI officers who come to investigate an honour killing in a village in Bihar. The Priyadarshan flick also features Amita Pathak and Paresh Rawal.
