When she shared that 'sunshine' car ride with SRK, she never thought she would get second time lucky with
him. But not only she was granted her ultimate wish but she became the one who made SRK's homecoming a
wonderful saga.
She is Gayatri Joshi, Ashutosh Gowariker's latest find, who makes his Mohan Bhargav leave his NASHA or
NASA, as most people call it, to find his roots.
A former Miss India finalist and a familiar face in a host
of advertisements, Gayatri Joshi is confident girl today. But that wasn't the case when she started shooting for
Swades.
"While shooting for the Hyundai ad, I never guessed I would be shooting for a film with Shah
Rukh Khan next! I was a bundle of nerves and excitement before the shoot. The first scene was shot in first
week of January 2004, where I enter the house and bang into Shah Rukh. The entire team made me
comfortable. Once that shot went through, the rest of the day was fine," reminisces Joshi.
With almost
250 commercial already in her kitty Gayatri landed into Gowariker's Oscar nominated follow-up, after three
rigorous auditions, taken by Ashutosh himself.
"I was very surprised to get the call from Ashutosh
Gowariker's office. I didn't think I would end up in the film. I thought he would use me for a commercial. Luckily,
I was selected for the film. I do not have any prior training in acting. My modelling experience helped me
because I was comfortable in front of the camera," she tells.
What about SRK?
"He was
amazing on the sets. Courtesy him, now I know how to tie a Dhoti," retorts Gayatri in a jiffy.
"I think
that he helped me get the best out of myself. He always gives good vibes to the entire unit. He made me feel
very comfortable. Shah Rukh has great knowledge of every aspect of filmmaking. I absorbed a lot from him,
what works or what doesn't work. But he never told me to act in a certain way."
Ask her where she
goes after Swades and this B.com graduate from Sydenham College says, "Dare-bare roles give me goose
bumps and I am definitely not going to them. I am quite happy with what I am doing. I will take up different roles,
but not something like that. I am not afraid of being typecast!"
