Like every year Gulzar went for a vacation in an undisclosed venue to celebrate the day. His family accompanied him in this trip, a national daily reported.
Gulzar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contribution to the arts and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002.
In his long journey he has penned down several memorable B-town numbers like "Do Deewaane Shehar Mein" from Gharonda, "Aanewala Pal Jaane Wala Hain" from 'Gol Maal', "Tujhse Naraaz Nahin Zindagi" from 'Masoom' to "Mera Kuchh Saamaan" from 'Ijazaat'.
In recent years songs like "Jai Ho" from the Oscar winning Hollywood film 'Slumdog Millionaire' and "Dil To Bachcha Hain Ji" from the film 'Ishqiya' gained immense popularity.
The master lyricist won the prestigious Oscar awards for 'Best Song' with music director AR Rahman for the composition 'Jai Ho' from the film 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
Celebrating the birth of his grandson, Samay, Gulzar released an audio book titled "Bosky Ka Panchatantra".
The series was written by Gulzar when his daughter Bosky was a kid, and with the addition of one more member to his family he transformed all those books in the form of an audio book.
The collection is a set of two CDs featuring 13 stories penned and narrated by Gulzar.
