A Jaipur-based lawyer has been crowned the Samsung Channel V Super Singer, a contest similar to the popular Indian Idol that concluded early this month.
"After months in pursuit of the country's next singing sensation, Channel V has unveiled India's first Super Singer, Ravindra Upadhyay, a lawyer from Jaipur," a statement
from the event organisers said Friday.
Upadhyay was crowned after warding off competition from four other finalists, who performed in front of a jury including singer Adnan Sami and music director A.R.
Rehman.
As the winner, Upadhyay walks away with a two music album deal with Times music, a music video, an opportunity to sing playback for music director Himesh
Reshammiya in a Bollywood film and a three-year contract with Channel V.
Earlier this month, Mumbai boy Abhijeet Sawant was crowned Indian Idol, Sony TV's take on the popular American Idol in a quest for the country's singing sensation.
