For all of us who have been constantly enjoying the writing duo of brothers Sajid-Farhan's skills at word-play and screen-writing the news that they are all set to turn directors with a film featuring Akshay Kumar comes as no surprise.
Speaking on behalf of bother brothers Sajid reveals, `We start shooting for our directorial debut from 1 July. Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia play the lead. The film is being produced by Tips. `
Prod Sajid a bit more on the subject of their directorial debut and he reveals, `Well, we are known for our comic writing in the Gol Maal series, Houseful and now David Dhawan's Chashme Buddoor. So there will be a large dose of humour in our film.
However our directorial venture would also have a substantial amount emotions. Yes, we'll make audiences both laugh and cry, though the film won't be so much of tearjerker that people would fall to the ground crying. We'd rather have them falling off their seats laughing. `
Sajid and Farhad are brothers with Farhad being younger by 7 years. The two brothers discovered their writing skills by accident.
Recounts Sajid, `As children we lived in Mumbai with our parents. Then all of us moved to Bengaluru where I saw some of my brother Farhad's writing. I could clearly see he had a special talent which we could apply to movies. So we relocated to Mumbai and began our journey as lyricists, then dialogue writers, then screenplay writers and now finally as co-directors. `
Sajid says he owes the duo's first major break as a lyricist to Salman Khan. `He's not our blood relative, nor did he know us. Yet he backed our talent and believed in us. Through Salman's good offices we got out first big song Munna mobile pappu pager in David Dhawan's Hum Kissise Kam Nahin. `
The film was to feature Salman Khan and Sajid-Farhad's song was to be filmed on Salman.
`But look at destiny. Salman left the film and the song was shot on Sanjay Dutt. So one really can't predict which way destiny takes you, ` says Sajid.
The writer-director duo admits that the script for their directorial debut is something that they had kept aside for a very long time. `We admit we had stashed this particular script away for when we turn directors. Sorry, Rohit Shetty. Sorry, if that seems selfish. `
