The cricket season may be going full swing in the country but that is not stopping our football fans from indulging in a good game of soccer. And Abhishek Bachchan is headed to England after being invited to watch the UEFA Champions League 2013 final on Saturday.
Film producer Bunty Walia, who shares AB's passion for the sport, is accompanying the actor to London. Abhi will be attending the event as a special guest.
A source close to the actor says, `Apart from being the most watched football tournament after the FIFA World Cup, it is also the most watched football club competition in the world with over four billion viewers across 223 countries. So naturally, Abhishek is super excited to be part of the event.`
Bunty Walia
Turns out UEFA invited Abhishek because he's an avid fan. Last year saw cricketer Shoaib Malik in the stands during the finals in Munich.
`If that wasn't all, the actor will also be present at the stadium during the practice sessions of both the competing German teams - Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund - and will be interacting with the teams along with cricket veteran Kapil Dev,` adds the informer.
Abhishek often plays a friendly game himself in a Bandra football club along with other fellow members of B-Town including Bunty. Says the producer, `Abhishek and I are travelling to London to attend the final. We look forward to the unique experience and like any football enthusiast, we are extremely excited to be part of this madness!`
The spokesperson for Abhi says the actor has already left for the finale. `Abhishek has left for London and he's thrilled about the whole thing. He's not only a football fan but also someone who plays it regularly. This opportunity is nothing less than an honour.`
Football freaks
Sallu is never seen brandishing his favourite football club but the Bollywood superstar has been active in football charity matches for long now. He wholeheartedly supports such events too.
Ranbir Kapoor with Lionel Messi at Camp Nou
Ranbir Kapoor is quite a footballer himself and a huge fan. In Wake Up Sid, his character was seen as an Arsenal fan but in real life, he's a diehard Barcelona fan. He's often sporting their merchandise too. As a global ambassador for a soft drink, he even went to meet his idol Lionel Messi in Spain.
John Abraham
John Abraham might be a biker boy but he's also a football fanatic. The actor was also part of India's first all-out football-related movie Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. He is known to be an Arsenal fan.
