The denial of UK visa to Salman Khan to shoot his upcoming film Kick has once again brought the spotlight on the slow but inevitable pace at which that law ultimately catches up with everyone, including Bollywood celebrities. Co-incidentally, many film bigwigs have, at times, found themselves in legal soups.
A quick look at some of the oft-reported legal tussles of film celebrities, beginning with Salman:
Salman Khan
Often dubbed as the original bad boy of Bollywood, Salman has had his fair share of controversies and legal troubles. The blackbuck poaching case in 1998, even led to his incarceration in jail for a few days.
He is also facing the heat in the hit-and-run case in which he ran his SUV into a bakery that resulted in the death of one person and injury to several people. A court has even framed charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, against him in this case.
Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt is currently in jail for illegal possession of firearms after the 1993 bomb blasts in Mumbai. The son of famous parents -- Sunil and Nargis Dutt, he has already spent eighteen months in jail during the trial and now needs to serve the rest of the five year term.
Shahrukh Khan
The Bhadshah of Bollywood and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) principal owner Shahrukh too hogged the headlines for the wrong reasons during the last edition of IPL, when he had massive altercations with MCA officials and one of the security guards, on the question of allowing his children to enter the playing arena of the stadium.
Consequently, the Bollywood superstar was banned from Wankhede Stadium for five years.
Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan had landed himself in trouble while hunting along with his late father. Recently, he was booked for entering into a brawl with a businessman at the Taj Hotel.
Shiney Ahuja
Shiney Ahuja suffered a big setback in his career when his domestic help filed a case against him for allegedly raping her at his home. Shiney was lodged in jail for a few months before he got the reprieve subsequent to the withdrawal of the case by the victim.
Fardeen Khan
Allegations of drugs have always haunted Firoj Khan's son Fardeen. He was arrested on charges of possessing cocaine in 2001, but later released on bail.
Madhur Bhandarkar
Struggling actress Preeti Jain shocked the film industry when she levelled allegations, against Madhur Bhandarkar, of raping her in lieu of promising her a lead role in one of his films. Bhandarkar is a free man now, as Preeti could not prove anything substantial against him.
Monica Bedi
Small time actress Monica Bedi has had her share of infamy for being the girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem. She was also convicted in a passport forgery case, along with Salem.
Bharat Shah
The Bollywood-underworld nexus came out in the open when Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, one of the films of producer Bharat Shah, was accused of being funded by the D-company.
