Two conmen were arrested from Delhi for trying to extort Rs.5 million from the owner of a leading chain of schools, inspired by the film "Bunty Aur Babli", police said
Wednesday.
Ajay Grover, 30, and Jai Prakash Misra, 31, posing as the henchmen of gangster Chhota Rajan, called the south Delhi-based school owner Dec 11 and demanded a sum of
Rs.5 million. They also threatened the victim against going to police.
The idea of extortion came to them after they watched the Bollywood movie "Bunty Aur Babli", said Tajender Luthra, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
While Misra is from Nangloi and worked as a peon in one of the schools owned by the complainant, Grover is a graduate from Delhi University.
Acting upon the information provided by the complainant, police arrested the two men from Rohini's Sector-III in northwest Delhi when they went there to collect the first
instalment of Rs.1 million.
"Both the accused identified themselves as members of the Chhota Rajan's gang and threatened to eliminate the victim if he failed to pay Rs.5 million," said Luthra.
A case has been registered, he added.
