What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
I love to read novels and short stories. I have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to a wide range of music--from alternative rock to jazz, reggae to chill-out, world music to anything new and interesting. I enjoy catching art films with my friends. We always watch out for international film festivals. I love theme parks! I love the rush I get from the hair-raising rides! I am passionate about traveling. Given the time and resources, I hope to travel to as many places possible, discovering new cultures and traditions and meeting new people.

Name one person other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
Atty. Carol Mercado, my supervisor at work. She has inspired me in so many ways. She is a brilliant lawyer, great mother and affectionate friend. Her disposition in life has always been very positive, she always wears this amiable smile that is very contagious. More importantly, she taught me the value of generosity. To readily give and to sow good karma. She is one of the most selfless people I know and I strive to emulate her.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I have always dreamt of becoming an ambassador of my country. Traveling, serving the people, and connecting with people appeal to me. My first job was a visa officer at the Royal Norwegian Embassy. I learned a lot since it exposed me to consular work. My current job at The Asia Foundation immerses me into development work which may be very useful in the foreign service. My stint as Miss Philippines allows me to expand my sphere of influence and be engaged in development work through the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. I intend to take up the foreign service exam in the future and also be involved in international development work.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born and raised in the lovely city of Davao, known as one of the largest cities in the world and located in the southern part of the Philippines. What makes Davao unique is that despite its recent economic development, Davao has retained an almost rustic ambience, flanked by oceans and islands on one side and rolling countryside on the other. Declared as one of the most liveable cities in Asia, Davao boasts of clean air and water and a very low crime rate. I have a lot of fond childhood memories. I come from a very close-knit family, I am the eldest, with two brothers and a sister. My grandparents lived nearby and we spent a lot of afternoons playing in their yard, Sunday lunches and holiday reunions were usual events held at our home. I was a very active student in school, participating in school variety shows and student politics. My mom enrolled me in various classes to develop my interests in music and the arts. Unfortunately my art, dance and music lessons didn’t make a great artist out of me, but made me an art aficionado nonetheless.

What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
Filipino values that make me uniquely Filipina marks me from the rest of the candidates. I am positive and driven. I have the experience on and commitment to development work.
