What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
I’m a "people person," so I enjoy lively discussions and general social interactions. (We call this ‘liming’.) Most of all, I appreciate developing meaningful friendships. I find a balance through meditation and I dabble a bit with yoga. This allows time on my own and to clear my thoughts. I enjoy a good page turner and taking in a movie with friends. Like most Trinis I enjoy the spontaneity and adrenaline of dancing all night and day. We have annual carnival where we do just that for two days and nights.
Name one person other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
I moved from my home in Tobago to live on my own in Trinidad to begin my Tertiary education. At the same time I befriended a young designer named Linhurst Cole who made me his muse and helped me to understand, appreciate and celebrate my unique beauty. This friendship continues today and has allowed me to develop a healthy sense of self; I recognize the joy of friendship and selflessness.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I have always been involved in charity and social work. It’s been a way of life that is primarily due to the influence of my family and our Church. It is rewarding, especially when there are significant advancements and visible opportunities for the lives involved. My most significant aspiration is to attain a position of influence where I could effect positive change on a national level. I am currently pursuing my ACCA Accounting Qualification and will probably pursue a post-graduate diploma in Social Cause Marketing.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I grew up in Tobago, the smaller of the two islands that make up Trinidad and Tobago. Tobago is known for its easy-going lifestyle, diverse culture and breathtaking beaches. My childhood was happy and surrounded by immediate and extended family. We spent holidays playing in the cocoa fields or sneaking off to the river and beaches for a swim. We would explore the ruins of 18th century forts and allow our imaginations to run wild. My brothers always wanted me to be the captured princess waiting to be rescued. I preferred playing the pirate and even played a good swordfight :> Seriously though, Tobago then and now is the kind of community that is ideal to raise a family.
What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
I am blessed with so much – a good family, values passed down from generation to generation, a focused attitude to the task at hand and many other components that allow me to feel good about myself. Though these qualities may not be unique to me, I am the sum of all my experiences. These, along with my ability to adapt, to handle an unexpected situation and make the most of the moment, allow me to believe that I am unique.
