Dessia was born in the mining town of Bartical located on the Eastern Banks of the Essequibo River, and moved at a young age to a village called Uitulugt found on the West Bank of the Demerara River. Guyana is known for its beautiful forests, rivers and mighty waterfall the ‘Kaieteur Falls’.
Dessia has achieved certificates in computer science and in social work, and will be continuing her studies at the University of Guyana to further her ambition to become a social worker. Her proudest moment was when she was presented with an award for ‘Best Student of the Year’ at school.
Her leisure interests are; travelling, dancing, singing, listening to Soca, which comprises of a fusion of Afro/Indian Caribbean rhythms, and modelling. Her favourite food is the Guyanese food; curry and cook-up – curry the traditional Indian dish and cook-up an African meal.
Favourite motto is “To be all you can while you can, opportunities in life only come once and everyone should make the best of their opportunities”.
