Thebyam was born in Mayaguez, located on the west end of the island and she grew up in the northern costal town of Arecibo. Puerto Rico is a small island very diverse in both topography and landscape with energetic, vibrant cities and a spectacular countryside.
Thebyam has achieved her Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing and is currently working as a Nurse, her ambition, after completing her term as Miss Puerto Rico, is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and complete her Masters in Public Health. During her study years Thebyam has worked as a model which has provided the payment for her college tuition.
Sports and leisure interests are: dancing the Salsa & Merengue, listening to the local music, volleyball, track & field, going to the beach, socialising with friends, her proudest moment has been overcoming her fear of heights when she skydived at a height of 2000 feet over sea level. Her favourite food is ‘pasteles’ (meat pies), but also after living in Japan for a whole semester she developed an appreciation for sushi and Japanese cuisine.
Her personal motto is from a famous Latin actress named Maria Felix, “Everyone should be judged from the waist up”. Thebyam finds this not only biologically accurate but also philosophically true as the heart, brain and soul in our bodies are found from the waist up.
