Jamie Wilson

What is your hometown like?
The congenial and nurturing spirit of Minden, La., and its 13,000 residents paints a perfect picture of Southern hospitality. From its historic homes and brick road to its incredible schools, churches, and civic organizations, Minden is a wonderful place to visit and to raise a family.

What were you like when you were a child?
As a child, I never met a stranger. I was often reprimanded in the classroom for talking nonstop, especially during nap time.

Who is the most influential person in your life?
Throughout my life, my dad has served as model father to my brothers and me, model husband to my mother, spiritual leader, disciplinarian, bread winner, best all-around coach, encourager and friend.

What is one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?
I am a total sap when it comes to the emotions of fictitious characters in books and movies. Whether the characters are mad, sad or glad, I cry.

What was one defining moment in your life?
As a sophomore in college, I decided to transfer schools in order to be closer to my family as my brothers completed high school. This decision made me realize even more fully the importance of family, and I am very thankful for my involvement in my brothers' lives and the incredible memories made before we all headed in our separate directions.

What was one defining moment in your life?
After five years of competing for my state title, I have learned the importance of setting and reaching goals through hard work and perseverance.

What was one defining moment in your life?
I will effectively convey to the public the Miss America Organization's purpose, dispel the public's misconceived notions of the organization, create a strong public image, establish mutually beneficial business relationships with existing and prospective sponsors, national organizations and government officials. I will continue to generate awareness of dyspraxia by establishing a Dyspraxia Foundation of America and reach our nation's youth by emphasizing that "the difference is what makes you special.
