Miss Pennsylvania
Emily Wills
What is your hometown like?
It is a friendly small town, the quintessential hometown USA where everyone knows their neighbors. One thing I really love about Beaver and western Pennsylvania in general is the beauty of the four distinct seasons.
What were you like when you were a child?
I just remember having lots of fun with my sisters and friends. I was a happy, energetic and affectionate child with an infectious laugh, and I was always giggling. I always wanted to be center stage and in the spotlight, ready to perform whether it was singing, dancing, acting out plays or just being silly.
Who is the most influential person in your life?
My family is an inspiration and my rock. Without the support of my mom, dad and sisters, Amy and Melissa, I would not be able to accomplish my dreams and aspirations.
What is one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?
Give me a hammer and a pair of work gloves, and I can shingle a roof. I have actually done this a few times. For four years during high school, I spent a week in Appalachia doing construction and ministry work.
What was one defining moment in your life?
When I was diagnosed with a dvt (blood clot) at 21 during my junior year of college, life changed quite dramatically. You learn the very valuable lesson to not take anything for granted, to truly appreciate good health and to use each day to the fullest.
What was one defining moment in your life?
Self-confidence and perseverance. I did not win Miss Pennsylvania until my fourth attempt, so my mantra was definitely, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!
What was one defining moment in your life?
I want to leave a legacy of service to children and youth serving agencies, by being remembered as someone who was sincere in trying to make my corner of the world a better place. While promoting Miss America as a national icon, I would want to place emphasis on connecting with my generation.
