Minako was born in Akita, a town in the north of Japan famous for its clear water and air. From childhood Minako was always very active and curious plus likes to take on all challenges. Her proudest moment was on passing the entrance exam to University, she is currently in her third year majoring in the department of English. It is her ambition to be a Newscaster. Minako has a special talent for the piano and Japanese Traditional Dance. In her leisure time she promotes the "Green Campaign" (has planted many trees), plays volleyball and loves to shop. Her motto is "Always Smile" because a smile has the power to give happiness. Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.My hometown Akita is located in North Japan. There is so much snow in winter. My parents are very strict but I know their strictness is their love for me. What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?The most interesting job I have done is worked at a jewellery show. You wear expensive and beautiful jewellery. I was very happy.
What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
My career ambition is to become a news broadcaster. To realise it, I practice reading news, collect information and try to pay attention to many things.
What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
The proudest moment is when I passed the examination to enter university. I longed to go the university since I was a junior high school student.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
The funniest moment is when I saw a popular TV star. The embarrassing moment is when I do broadcasting in live show and when people ask me difficult questions.

I got a chance to talk with various people. I started to research Japanese culture again.
Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
I met a famous newscaster. She has already established her position in Japan, but she doesn’t continue to study. Her effort is a good example for me to follow.
What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
I am interested in progress of women’s position. In Japan, women’s position is starting to be equal to men’s, but in some foreign countries women’s valuable abilities are being oppressed.
If you had a personal motto what would it be?
My motto is “Always Smile” I think smiling has the power to make you happy.
Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
I have visited many prefectures to promote a “Green Campaign” which is the activity to protect nature. I have planted many trees.
