Oslie attended schools in and around Bulawayo, representing them in netball, volleyball, high jump and triple jump. She was also Vice President of the Interact Club, Junior Public Speakers & French Club, Athletics Captain and Deputy Head Girl. She has presented a teen magazine show and live children’s shows. Currently she is studying for a Bachelors Degree in Science and Honours in Physics, a Public Relations Officer of the Physics society and on the organising committee of ‘Shape Zimbabwe’ project and working with the international broadcaster Z.T.V for an AIDS awareness programme. Her ambition is to be a successful and influential woman scientist. Oslie’s hobbies are: Reading, research, dancing including the traditional Shona and Ndebele Dances. Her sporting interests include: Volleyball, swimming, athletics and netball.
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.
I grew up in Bulawayo - The second largest city in Zimbabwe, with my parents, four sisters and three brothers.
What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?
Presented 3 TV programmes, STAR KIDS, TEENSCENE and Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. The most interesting has been TEENSCENE.
What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
To develop women scientists. As a woman scientist, inspire young women to develop themselves.
What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
When the Zimbabwe national anthem was sung at the Athens Olympics after Kirsty Conventry clinched 3 medals.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
During S.R.C. campaigns at university, I entered the great hall thinking it was a campaign rally, only to discover there was a Media Studies Seminar and I was the only Physics student.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
More responsibilities and more influence in tackling problems. I have become a role model.
Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
My brother’s family - My brother is deaf and dumb and married a deaf and dumb wife and their lives are a big inspiration to me.
What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
Empowering myself so as to empower young women on a larger scale. Channel resources and funds from international organisation to that cause.
If you had a personal motto what would it be?
It is not what I achieve, but obstacles I overcome as I realise my life’s purpose.
Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
Fundraising, donations in cash and kind to Thembiso’s children’s home, which has the majority of AIDS orphans in Bulawayo. Hosting an end of year party for them.
