Miss Antigua & Barbuda
Shermain Jeremy
Age: 23Height: 5'9"
Hair Colour: Brown
Eye Colour: Brown
Occupation: Diplomat: Second Secretary at our permanent mission to the United Nations.
Interests: I love reading a good book or watching an action-packed movie. At this moment in my life, I've been very focused on developing my musical career and, therefore, spend a lot of my time writing songs and recording in the studio. I'm also very interested in motivating young people in Antigua and Barbuda. I realize that many of them look up to me as a role model and I like to use that in a positive way.
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
My grandmother has been the most influencial person in my life because as a little girl while everyone else told me that I couldn't sing, she was the only one that told me I could and pushed me to find and develope my gift. I must thank her for believing in me because today singing and performing is one of those things that gives me the most profound passion in life.
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you (aside from winning your title) and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
In light of my success at the Miss World Pageant last December, the Government gave me the opportunity to be a part of our tourism team. This requires me to do a lot of traveling; really fun activities like photo and video shoots; and attend tourism conferences and trade shows where I get to meet and network with a lot of people. So what has actually happened is my job has now become two-fold Diplomat/Tourism Ambassador and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
My career ambition is my dream of becoming an international recording artist. Presently, I'm writing my own songs and recording at Quad Studios in New York City. On the flip side of that, however, is my interest in diplomacy which is the career I have now as a diplomat with Antigua and Barbuda's permanent mission to the United Nations.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was raised in a small community called Parham. A very long time ago it was the main city so my hometown has quite a rich history. I lived with my mom who is a teacher and my dad who is a businessman. My childhood was filled with love and excitement. I spent a lot of time laughing and I can remember my sister and I playing and running around on our front lawn. My parents were very strict disciplinarians, especially my father. However, my sister and I know that it was all in the name of love. I know that if it were not for them, I would not be who and what I am today.
List any interesting or unsual jobs you may have had.
The job I have now is the most interesting I've ever had. I think that the diplomatic core comprises the most intelligent, well-versed, educated, talkative and protocol-conscious group of persons I have ever met.
It is quite interesting working along with them. What is most interesting is the diversity that exists at the UN. I feel priviledged being a part of that melting pot of nations.
What is your most unusual talent?
I think my most unusual talent can be considered to be more of a skill. It's what some may call "the gift of the gab" but I prefer to call it "my powers of persuasion". For some reason, I always convince people to do things my way.
