Long-Running TV Shows That Need To Go Off-Air
They say all good things must come to an end. We say bad and blah things must end sooner. It is a sad reality that many Indian television soaps, which are weapons of mass torture masquerading as entertainment, continue well beyond their expiry date. As the new year nears and it's time to make way for new beginnings, we draw up a list of six small screen shows that we hope not to see anymore...
-
'Supercops vs Supervillains'
Started: 2012
The makers went overboard showing cops fighting ugly looking super-humans in unrealistic, illogical situations. It can easily make way for another show that is more palatable to viewers.
-
CID
Started:1998
The show has been aired over a decade now and ACP Pradyuman's 'Kuch toh Gadbad Hai' needs to bid goodbye as its high time some realistic shows take over. Though, we love the heroic cops Abhijeet, Daya and Ferdricks but we guess its time they should retire!
-
'Balika Vadhu'
Started: 2008
The show looked promising and did take up issues such as widow remarriage, forced marriage, adult education, lack of medical facilities in villages and so on. However, over the years, the show has become monotonous and it is high time that they said goodbye to Indian audiences.
-
'Ek Veer Ki Ardaas... Veera'
Started: 2012
Daily soap started by showing a cute bond between a little boy and his even littler half-sister. But, the story gradually became a routine tale of how they fight against all odds and try fulfill everyone's wish. Blah! The grapevine suggests curtains will come down.
-
'Saath Nibhana Sathiya'
Started: 2010
The story of two cousins - Gopi and Rashi - who are complete opposites, the former being an innocent, illiterate girl and the latter, selfish and greedy. Predictably, Gopi's cousin time and again creates trouble for her. The makers should come up with more interesting angles or just wrap up the show at the earliest.
-
'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon'
Started: 2011
The plot was based on the concept of 'opposites attract'. But then the current track is nothing different from the original one - how the girl realizes that her husband has a heart of gold and goes all out to solve never-ending problems in their relationship and family.
-
'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai'
Started: 2009
It also focused the young bahu taking time to adjust with her new, big family and draws support from her husband in doing so. The show has seen a generation leap where the lead couple has become parents but don't seem to outgrow the premise of encountering basic family problems.
