The hits and misses from the Oscars red carpet

Like every year, the Oscar night was talked about not only for the winners, but also the red carpet appearances. A few celebrities made a style statement as they sashayed down the red carpet, while some others were plain drab. White and nude shades dominated the glittering evening and look set to be all the rage in the coming season as well. hitlist does a quick fashion round-up...

  • Emma Stone

    Emma Stone

We are impressed with the actress' choice of outfits in the awards season. She was the picture of elegance at the Golden Globes this year and wowed us here too. That sequined Elie Saab thigh-high slit gown in lime green though gorgeous is a difficult hue to carry and Emma, with her bold lips and matching heels, came out with flying colours.

  • Zoe Saldana

    Zoe Saldana

The Guardians of the Galaxy star stunned us in a blush-coloured Atelier Versace gown. The colour complemented Saldana's skin tone and the flowy silhouette accentuated her body in the right areas. Also, that messy hair do and the elegant diamond statement necklace make for perfect accessories. Kudos for looking like this after delivering twins a couple of months ago.

  • Rosamund Pike

    Rosamund Pike

She probably saved the best look for the last. This red Givenchy dress is absolutely stunning and looks so good on her. The neatly tied hair, the matching heels and no make-up are to die for.

  • Nicole Kidman

    Nicole Kidman

The actress misses the mark with this Louis Vuitton number. The lime green fading into pink shimmery outfit is blah and the red belt in the middle is in fact of no use. And what's with that clutch? Looks like a vanity kit gone small.

  • Jennifer Hudson

    Jennifer Hudson

Doing yellow right, Jennifer Hudson stood out amongst the celebrities gracing the Oscars. Her Romona Keveza gown paired with emerald earrings is a showstopper.

  • Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

The couple was at its stylish best at this award ceremony. We must say host Neil looks charming in this well-fitted grey suit.

  • Lady Gaga

    Lady Gaga

No surprises here. Like her usual over-the-top self, Gaga arrived in a white gown by Paris-based designer Azzedine Alaia. For once we liked the crispness of her gown with the sleek hair, but what's with those red gloves? It looked like she is set to do the dishes.

  • Jennifer Lopez

    Jennifer Lopez

The singer chose an embellished Elie Saab gown for the event. The plunging neckline, sleek ponytail and nude make-up make her look effortlessly stylish. We wish she used a brighter lip-stain to make a greater impact.

  • Eddie Redmayne

    Eddie Redmayne

The actor had everything going for him at the ceremony. Not only did he take away the Oscar for the Best Actor, he looked attractive in a midnight blue suit and a black bow tie.

  • Scarlett Johansson

    Scarlett Johansson

We have heard of how accessories enhance an outfit. Well, this is a clear example of how they can ruin it. Scarlett graced the red carpet in this lovely bottle-green Versace number and would have been counted among the best dressed had it not been for that chunky matching necklace.

  • Blanco Blanco

    Blanco Blanco

Blanco's cascading gown was a disaster. The lesser said about it the better.

  • Jared Leto

    Jared Leto

He has always managed to get our attention. This time too, he looked dapper in this pale pastel Givenchy suit with a flower broach. The only roadblock in calling this suit a super hit are those claudhoppers. They take away from its wow factor.

  • Lupita Nyongo

    Lupita Nyongo

She has always been a red carpet favourite and she made no mistake this time either. Although we wonder as to how heavy that Calvin Klien gown would be with so many pearl strings on it, Nyongo carried this number with flair. Thumbs up.
