India To Get Its First Dairy For Donkey Milk; One Litre Milk May Sell For Rs 7K
Many milch animals are reared in India, including cow, buffalo, and goat, for their milk. But for the first time, something is going to happen in the country, which will leave you with an introspect.

According to the media reports, The National Research Centre on Equines (NRCE) is soon going to start 'donkey milk dairy' in Haryana's Hisar. To fulfill the purpose, NRCE had already ordered 10 Halari breed donkeys and scientists of NRCE believe that dairy will be started only after breeding.

Donkey milk dairy might be a never before seen concept for few Indians, but globally, donkeys have first domesticated around 6,000 years ago in North Africa and Egypt for meat and milk purposes. Also in the Gujarat state, milk of the Halari breed of Gujarat is considered a treasure of medicines and is said to be sold in the market for two thousand to seven thousand rupees a liter.

Donkey's milk has superior qualities and it is very good for infants, especially those with gastric problems, and for people suffering with skin allergies and cancer. Donkey's milk is similar to a human mother's milk, and rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, they said. It has less fat than cow milk.

According to NRCE senior scientist Dr Anuradha Bhardwaj, who is working on this project, said, "Many times young children are allergic to cow or buffalo milk but never allergic to the milk of the Halari breed. Its milk contains antioxidant, anti-agenic elements which develop the ability to fight many serious diseases in the body."

The scientists of NRCE Hisar's Central Buffalo Research Center and National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal are working together on the project. Meanwhile, the research work on donkey milk was started by Dr. NRN, former director of NRCE, BN Tripathi. Dr. Yashpal, director of NRCE, said that this milk contains nominal fat. Donkey milk also plays an important role in correcting the immune system of the body.
