Miss Namibia
Leefa Shilkwa Leefa
Age: 23Occupation: Student
Height: 176
Leefa was born in a small village called Onepandaulo in the northern part of Namibia and grew up in a small town called Tsumeb. Namibia is situated in south western africa, it has an ocean, lots of resorts, a desert with beautiful dunes and a welwitchia mirabilis plant that can live for more than 100 years. Leefa is currently studying for her bachelor of technology at the polytechnic of namibia, it is her ambition to be a very successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. Hobbies and sporting interests are: debating interesting and diverse subject matters, working out in the gym, netball, volleyball and any kind of african dance especially the traditional “odelela” and the kizomba dances. Her personal motto would be “never look down to any person, because you will never know what you might learn from them”.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Compassionate – I have a deep sense of caring, especially for the children of my homeland.
Confident – my experience with modelling has helped me grow as a woman and project myself to my best advantage.
Sincere – honesty is very important to me and I don’t have much time for people who are deliberately deceptive.
Do you have a special or unusual talent? (what is it?)
I don’t know if this is ‘unusual’ but I do have the ability to talk comfortably, even with strangers. Some people become intimidated in such situations, but i’m very comfortable with who I am and enjoy meeting and interacting with people
Where would you most like to visit in the world and why?
At the moment the extent of my travels has only been on the african continent. I have visited two of namibia’s neighbouring countries: South Africa and Angola. But I would really love to visit the united states of america one day as it seems to be the complete opposite of namibia. Namibia is sparsely populated and still has many traditional communities and customs. The usa seems glamorous, full of life and very busy with people on the go the whole time.
What is the best thing about your country?
Definitely the sunshine! Namibia experiences a wonderfully warm summer climate almost throughout the year.
What is your favourite…..
Film: I like learning so enjoy any documentary-type films that can teach me.
Music: Anything that gets me moving on the dance floor!
Singer/band: I enjoy ‘Diva’ type singers
Book: There are so many good books out there, and the more I read the more I find it difficult to pick just one as a favourite.
If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
Being miss namibia, I work quite extensively with michelle mclean children’s trust and have travelled across the country with the organisation. It’s heart breaking to see the conditions in which some african children are forced to survive.
If you were stuck on a desert island with one other person (famous or not) whom would you choose?
My mother has always been my pillar of strength so definitely from an emotional point of view I would like her to join me. From a physical point of view, i’d be a cast away with vin diesel. He’s definately strong enough to create a shelter for us both and could protect me from any possible dangers on the island.
What is your message to all the other miss world contestants?
Being chosen as the single representative from a country is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s an honour simply to participate in such a prestigious event.
You’re judging the final five contestants, which question would you ask the finalists?
Are you different or similar to the child you once were?
