Miss California
Jacquelynne Fontaine
What is your hometown like?
If you're looking for oceanfront homes, great Mexican food and the world's best strawberries then come to Oxnard where I grew up. Moorpark, the small town I live in now, is nestled in a beautiful valley of rolling green hills and boasts a great apricot festival and even a civil war reenactment.
What were you like when you were a child?
I introduced myself to everyone, citing my and my parents' ages and used up countless band-aids after failed acrobatic stunts. I'd also dress up in my mom's prom dresses and sing and play the piano for hours.
Who is the most influential person in your life?
My mom, of course. Plus, my first voice teacher, Diann Alexander, who told me that opera was the Olympics of singing and challenged me to become the best complete artist I can be.
What is one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?
That I'm a very goofy person in private -- and public too, sometimes!
What was one defining moment in your life?
Skinny and wearing a paper wig, I played Ursula from The Little Mermaid in third grade. Hearing the audience of parents' laughter got me hooked onto performing.
What was one defining moment in your life?
Glitz and glamour cannot define one's self-image. Confidence comes from an inner peace and a drive to become the best version of yourself.
What was one defining moment in your life?
I want to advance diabetes awareness and prevention so no one has to suffer what my father did -- an unexpected stroke and kidney problems due to undetected diabetes. Also, to continue past-Miss Americas' work in updating our image and accessibility. This program is a great launching pad for women across the nation. Let's spread the message!
