Miss New Hampshire
Emily Hughes
What is your hometown like?
My hometown is the typical New England scenery with white steeple churches and stone walls lining the roads. It is quaint and fosters a close-knit community.
What were you like when you were a child?
I was extremely outspoken, so if I had an opinion I made sure everyone knew it.
Who is the most influential person in your life?
I would be remiss to name just one person. Both of my parents have molded me and still teach me life lessons that I will pass on to my children.
What is one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?
If they meet in the context of being Miss New Hampshire, they probably think that I am a girly girl. When it comes down to choosing an outfit, a T-shirt, jeans and sneakers would be my first choice.
What was one defining moment in your life?
One defining moment would be when I received my master's degree in elementary education. I knew since I was little that I wanted to teach, so having this accomplished at the age of 22 was extremely rewarding.
What was one defining moment in your life?
I have learned the important skill of time management. As a state titleholder, you need to be on time or early, be able to balance a busy day while traveling and learn to take time to relax.
What was one defining moment in your life?
If chosen as Miss America 2007, I will strike a balance between the traditional Miss America image and the contemporary. I will also continue to be a strong, visible spokeswoman for the character education programs illustrating the commitment to community that is fostered by the Miss America Program.
