Her most significant achievement was when she got the highest grade in an aptitude test called APES which is very important in El Salvador. It is her ambition is to be a professional in the field of mechanics and electronics and help her country be more competitive in a globalised world.
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.
I grew up in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. When I was a child my family and I travelled a lot around the world and also around my country. Every weekend we spent either on the beach, the mountain or the sea. That is one of the memories I like the most about my country. You can find a lot of different panoramic scenes that are less than four hours from the capital. I come from a large family. I have two sisters, one brother a nanny and her daughter (who is like my third sister) whom my parents have helped so that she can study in order to become the successful woman that she is now. We are very close and supportive of each other. Our parents have taught us that family is the only real thing we have in life; since it is a bound that not even death can break. I am very thankful for this treasure that God has given me.
What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?
Throughout my life I have been involved in several jobs. I used to teach maths and German as a tutor. I used to work in a diving centre as an Instructor and I have been a dance teacher since I was 15 years old. Two years ago I worked as a model for Barbie, which I liked very much because I enjoy making children happy and fulfilling the girls dreams. The most interesting job I have done is when I worked of a worldwide company in the marketing area. It required discipline and responsibility, and thanks to it I gained experience and it helped me to choose my career.
What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
I have always wanted to help El Salvador in many ways and winning my national title is the first step to do it. I want to represent El Salvador as it is: strong, beautiful and unique, in order to open tourism and the foreign investment. This will work as an engine to better our economy, which will guarantee a better life to my people. I also want to show that winning a beauty contest is not only about being, posing and saying beautiful phrases; you have to work hard, prepare yourself and be more sensitive towards every situation, because beauty comes form the inside out. My ambition as a professional is to study mechantronical engineering in Monterry Mexico, and in order to achieve that I have been working very hard to earn a scholarship.
What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
I felt very proud of myself when I found out I had gotten the highest score in a very important national aptitude test.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
I was dancing Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker in front of hundreds of people and fell down to the floor. I stood up and tried to make everything look as if it was part of the choreography.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
It has changed in many ways, since I am no longer representing myself, but my whole country. This demands discipline, responsibility and an adequate behaviour because a lot of girls desire to become a beauty queen just like I did and therefore I must be a flawless example to them. I am now a more perseverant person and even though I know it is not easy I am willing to work hard in order to show the capacity of my people.
Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
One of the most important events I was part of is when a tribute was organised to my Grandmother after her death. She was honoured for being the first woman governor of El Salvador and for her altruist character that encouraged her to do all the social projects she completed.
What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
Becoming Miss World 2004 is my goal. I have prepared myself to receive a crown that symbolised effort, a big joy to my country, responsibility and most important the opportunity to help those who are in need. The first thing I would do is help the children because they are the foundation of the future. I would gladly put myself down to Miss World’s ideology as its slogan "Beauty with a Purpose" says, and more than a Miss World, I would become a good will’s ambassador, giving the message of peace, respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
If you had a personal motto what would it be?
My personal motto is based of the philosophic idea of Plato: "The freedom of a person ends where it limits the freedom of his fellowmen"
Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
I have been part of many charitable works. Last Christmas I organised a project in which my friends and I recollected clothing and gave it to those families that live the streets. We also organised a Christmas party in an orphanage. We made sandwiches, cakes, took piñatas and played with the children. The most recent charitable activity I did is when I went with my mother and sister to visit people of all ages that are sick with cancer.
