AGP World presents Hotel Paradiso, a story of a small hotel where dream vacations turn into hilarious spooky experiences enacted by men in masks. Familie F loz, a theare group based in Germany in association with AGP World is bringing this family comedy to India for the first time.
Familie F loz believes is only making theatre with material that exists rather than laying emphasis on speech as a means of expression. Hotel Paradiso is presented in its signature mask theatre format making use of physical conflict exhibited via the movement of masked actors on stage.
The story of Hotel Paradiso revolves around the goings-on at a small, family run hotel in the Alps where dream vacations turn nightmare as "the squabbling staff struggle to keep their secrets hidden, the business alive and the corpses out of sight".
This genre and concept is relatively new for the audience in India and Gianni Bettucci, who manages the group and participates in its creative process, says the biggest challenge to producing a show like Hotel Paradiso is getting the audience to come to the theatre. Hotel Paradiso has used silence as a weapon throughout the show mixing it up well with music, nonverbal gestures and certain kind of noises.
Michael Vogel, director of Familie Floz productions says, `A mask discloses more than it conceals, opening up the inner world of a character and changing the actor wearing the mask to a completely different person. The masks give an actor the freedom to change constantly during the course of a single per formance -from one character to another, from a man to a woman -ensuring that things never get monotonous on stage.`
Hotel Paradiso presented by AGP World premieres in New Delhi on the 28th of October, 2016. We cannot wait to see what these masked men have in store for us!
