Netflix dropped its first trailer for Dolemite Is My Name! It stars Eddie Murphy as the swashbuckling Rudy Ray Moore, a comedian-turned-action star. Rudy wanted a make a name for himself in the film industry, and after a string of dead-end jobs comes up with a Dolemite persona. The trailer looks back at his struggles with the industry and the moment of epiphany which leads him to come up with Dolemite-a debonair, intellectual, and Kung-Fu loving pimp.
Dissatisfied with on-screen representation, he goes on to expand Dolemite into a movie; on his way gathering a motley crew of characters to make his vision come true. Dolemite was both a cultural and commercial career, leading to blaxploitation hits such as Dolemite (1975), The Human Tornado (1976), The Legend of Dolemite (1994), and Shaolin Dynamite (1999).

This looks like a perfect come back vehicle for Eddie Murphy, who is thankfully taking on more substantial roles starting with Mr. Church (2016). Directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the movie is lead by a talented cast of Tituss Burgess(Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Craig Robbinson(The Office), Mike Epps(Next Friday), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), rapper Snoop dog, Tony-Award winner Da`Vine Joy Randolph and Wesley Snipes (Blade).
Before streaming with Netflix, it will make its debut in the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in Special Presentations section.
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will go on from 5-15 September, showcasing global cinema and hopeful 2020 Oscar contenders.
