Seems like we are getting a Terrance Mallick film this December. The trailer for `A Hidden Life` has been released, with director bringing his signature love of aesthetic and lush cinematography to an unknown story of strength and beliefs.
`A Hidden Life` is based on the real-life story of Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl) an Austrian peasant and devout Catholic who refuses to participate in World War II for the Nazis. Mallick`s tracking shots follow Franz and her wife Franziska (Valerie Pachner)fondly looking back at the good times, before Franz`s refusal to fight threatens to tear them apart.

"I can`t do what I believe is wrong," says Franz as he questions his faith to god and struggles with his loyalty to the motherland. Now ostracized as a traitor, he faces the grim eventuality of death. He is beaten and broken by the soldiers but endures as his spirit remains uncrushed.
After `Knights of Cups` and `Song to Song,` Mallick has returned to a the scripted approach in storytelling. To his credit, Mallick has already made `The Thin Red Line,` one of the most visceral war films and this too looks promising.
`A Hidden Life` stars August Diehl, Valerie Pachner, Michael Nyqvist, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alexander Fehling, and Bruno Ganz. It premiered in competition at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2019. It was then acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures and is scheduled to be released theatrically on December 13, 2019.
