Nobody loves movies about movies more than the film industry. Films like Robert Altman`s `The Players,` Federico Fellini`s ` 81/2, and Frank Oz`s `Bowfinger` shows how filmmakers take creative indulgence in the process of moviemaking.
James Franco brought to you `The Disaster Artist`, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Tommy Wiseau`s `The Room`. Now a cult classic, it has been defined as the "Citizen Kane of bad movies". ` The Disaster Artist` was based on the book of the same name which was written by Greg Sestero, who also starred in the infamous movie.
Instead of lampooning the source material, Franco honored the tale of a dreamer. In Tommy, he saw someone who was determined to make it in Hollywood and was unwilling to let go of that dream. The film was both critically and commercially successful, as Franco won a Golden Globe for his performance as Tommy Wiseau.
With `Zeroville` the mind of James Franco brings to you another tale of a dreamer. He is Vikar, who sets out on a Forrest Gump-like journey in 1970`s Hollywood Culture. He befriends an aging film editor Dotty( Jackie Weaver), as he tries to navigate his way through a wild wild west of eccentric characters- Seth Rogen as a cigar-smoking writer `Viking Man,` Craig Robinson as a cinephile `The Burglar,` Joey King as an angry punk-rocker `Zazi,` Danny McBride as an angry `Detective Slim`.

Franco wins the affections `The Actress` (Megan Fox), and has to make sense of a rapidly changing Hollywood around him. There are glimpses of a young Steven Spielberg, the set of the movie `Apocalypse Now,` and a look at Vikar`s bald head which holds a tattoo of Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor from the movie `A Place in The Sun`. Soon, the line between fact and fiction starts to blur as he begins to obsess over what he believes is a secret movie within every movie ever made.
`Zeroville` is based on the Steve Erickson`s novel of the same name. It deals with the film culture and its power over us. It also looks at the 1970s which was the most creatively rebellious time in the history oh Hollywood as many young talented filmmakers emerged on the block.
`Zeroville` is directed by James Franco and also features Dave Franco, Will Ferrel, Horatio Sanz, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Scott Haze. It is scheduled to be released on September 20, 2019, in cinemas.
