If all goes well, the audience will see the 'Crazy Rich Asians' breakout Henry Golding in a never-seen-before action avatar as he is in talks to star in the 'G. I Joe' spin-off 'Snake Eyes'. Golding will be taking over the role from Ray Park, who has played it the first two 'G.I. Joe' movies.
'Snake Eyes' is a popular fictional character from the 'G.I. Joe' comics and toys series. He is an elite commando, dressed in all-black. During one of his first solo missions, he is said to have received severe damage to his face and vocal cords, of which the latter couldn't be saved. In recent storylines, he has shown to be romantically involved with the team member Scarlett.
Paramount Pictures have previously made two 'G.I. Joe' movies 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' (2009) and 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' (2013) which made a ton of money in spite of critical failure.
The 'Snake Eyes' spin-off will be directed by Robert Schwenke with a script from Evan Spiliotopoulos. The story is said to be his quest to revenge his father's murder. To unearth what lead to the murder, he joins a ninja clan and along the way finds acceptance. The movie is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Brian Goldner, and Stephen Davis.
Henry Golding will be seen in the upcoming Christmas rom-com 'Last Christmas' with Emilia Clarke. He also set to appear in Hong Khaou's drama 'Monsoon' and Guy Ritchie's crime-comedy 'The Gentlemen' alongside Matthew McConaughey and Charlie Hunnam.
