The documentary 'Finding Farideh' has been selected as Iran's official entry for the international feature category for the 92nd Academy Awards, also known as Oscars.
In this 90-minute documentary directed by Kourosh Ataee and Azadeh Moussavi, narrated by Eline Farideh Koning we learn about a girl's attempt to retrace her steps back into the past. Farideh, an Iranian girl was adopted by a Dutch couple 40 years ago. She now overcomes her fears and travels to her motherland Iran to search for what was denied to her.
The the documentary follows her as meets with three families claiming to her one true family. While back in Iran, she also learns valuable lessons on culture and identity. First premiered in this year's Berlinale Talent Sidebars, it was selected as the official Oscar entry from a list of 10 hopefuls.
Beginning with Ray Aghayan's nomination for Best Costume Design in 1970 for 'Gaily Gaily', Iran has not only made a mark in the international cinema but has also had an increasing presence at the Oscars.Asghar Farhadi was the last Iranian to win an Oscar for 'The Salesman' which fetched him a Best Foreign Language. It was his second win, after having won for his drama 'A Separation'.
The 92nd Oscars will be held on 9th February 2020.
