Turns out Noah Baumbach' 'Marriage Story' isn't the only divorce story to come out today.
Marvel and Sony has failed to secure an agreement pertaining to the distribution of Box-Office revenue. The existing agreement states that Marvel is to receive five percent of first-dollar gross and as well a merchandise based revenue for Spider-Man movies. Marvel wanted a 50% stake in profit, with Sony unwilling to relinquish control.
Sony, after rescuing Marvel Comics from a catastrophic bankruptcy in 1999 made heaps of money by turning the fictional characters in a gigantic movie-going experience. Spider-Man was deemed to be cream of the crop and Sony continued to reap in the profits brought by the web-swinging teenage superhero.
Spider-Man was brought to screen by Sam Raimi' 'Spider-Man Trilogy' and Mark Webb's 'The Amazing Spider-Man' movies, but it was Tom Holland's portrayal that brought a freshness to the character. Holland' rendition of the web-swinging teen was first seen in 'Captain America: Civil War' in a scene-stealing moment, fans will forever cherish. He further appeared, disappeared and returned in 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame' and later went on to earn his stand-alone movies 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and its sequel 'Spider-Man 2: Homecoming'
'Spider-Man: Homecoming' grossed $880 million worldwide, with the sequel 'Spider-Man: Far From Home` taking in $1.11 billion. It's not just Marvel missing out on some serious chunk of cash, but the future of Tom Holland's involvement in the MCU now remains uncertain. With Marvel not coming to an agreeable offer, it will interesting to see what the future holds for Spider-Man and us fans would be sad to see Tom Holland go.
