Throughout his career, Terry Gilliam has always traveled down the road less taken. Critical reception is something he doesn't bother with, only concerning himself with uncompromising artistic freedom. This stubborn resolve hasn't always worked out for him, but he's standing and having the last laugh.
Cinephiles around the world are aware of the fact that Gilliam can dish out as he pleases, but it is time for him to take it! it! We are talking about the fact that the filmmaker will be receiving a Life Time Honor at the hands of the Cairo Film Festival which will take place from November 20-29.
"Terry Gilliam is a genius filmmaker, a maverick who has an extraordinary gift for storytelling, his films are wildly imaginative and sublime, submerging audiences into dizzying dystopias and whimsical fairytales; he is undoubtedly one of the true greats of cinema. His remarkable, visionary body of work, which spans over 40 years, has seen him craft some of the most unique, epic and captivating films ever made." said the Cairo Film Festival president Moh Hefzy.
Responding affirmatively, Gilliam has said, "It's a great honor to be recognized with this award by the Cairo International Film Festival, I am very excited to be visiting Egypt in November to meet with audiences and filmmakers to celebrate storytelling.`
Terry Gilliam started as a performer and animator for the famous British comedy group 'Monty Python'. He soon transitioned into films, giving us cinematic delights such as 'Brazil' (1985) and '12 Monkeys' (1995). His latest film, 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' released this year, after being in development hell for more than 30 years.
