Alexander Skarsgard has joined the Stephen King universe. The 'Big Little Lies' actor has joined the mini-series 'The Stand' for CBS All Access. Skarsgard will be playing the antagonist Randall Flagg. Skarsgard has joined the likes of James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Henry Zaga, Brad William Henke, Whoopi Goldberg, and Daniel Sunjata who will have a guest role.
Stephen King's 'The Stand' takes place in a post-apocalyptic world triggered by the breakdown of society following the release of a biological weapon. The weapon is a virulent strain of influenza that decimates the population.
The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Goldberg) and a handful of survivors whose worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
The show is created by Josh Boone (Stuck in Love, The Fault in Our Stars) who will also serve as a director. King is said to have written the final episode of the book, and it might feature material which is not in his book. No release date has yet been announced, but Entertainment Weekly believes that a release sometime in 2020 seems likely.
