Saturday Night Live has finally parted ways with the comedian Shane Gillis. The sketch comedy show's latest hire was in news after video clips of him making racist slurs and homophobic comments resurfaced last week.

In an official statement, NBC Network made it clear that Shane was hired based on merit. However, the producers weren't aware of his remarks as made in his resurfaced video. `The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable,` reads the statement, which comes from executive producer and show creator Lorne Michaels. `We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.`

After hell broke loose, the matter was made worse when Shane Gillis made a half-hearted apology, saying that he would apologize `to anyone who's actually offended` `My intention is never to hurt anyone but I am trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes that requires risks.` the comedian reasoned.

In response to his firing, Shane posted via Twitter to express his displeasure with the whole incident. He maintains that he was funny enough to be on the show, a fact that can never be changed. He departed, thanking SNL for the opportunity, saying "I was always a mad tv guy anyway."

For their 45th season, Saturday Night Live has also added Bowen Yang, first Asian American comedian on the show and a masterful celebrity impressionist Chloe Fineman. The show returns on September 28, with Woody Harrelson hosting and Billie Eilish as the musical guest.
