After playing the crown prince of crime, Phoenix's next act finds him taking the indie film route. Mike Mills, director of 'Beginners' and '20th Century Women' will team up with Joaquin Phoenix for his drama film which is backed by A24.The production for the film will begin this fall, with Chelsea Barnard, Lila Yacoub, and Andrea Longacre-White set to serve as producers on Mill's latest movie.
Phoenix is riding high on the success of 'Joker', which won the Golden Lion Prize for the best film at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. It was a huge deal as it emerged victorious over titles such as James Gray's 'Ad Astra', Roy Anderson' 'About Endlessness', Noah Baumbach's 'Marriage Story', and Steven Soderbergh's 'The Laundromat'
Directed by Todd Philips, 'Joker' is an original standalone origin story of the iconic villain not seen before on the big screen, it's a gritty character study of Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society, and a broader cautionary tale.
'Joker' is coming to put a smile on your face on October 4, 2019.
