Nicky Barnes was an American crime boss, active in New York City during the 1970s. In 1972, Barnes formed The Council, a seven-man African-American organized crime syndicate that controlled a significant part of the heroin trade in the Harlem area of New York City. Barnes died from cancer in 2012, however, his death was recently made known due to him being under witness protection.
For 'The Council' Will Smith will reunite with Peter Landsman (Concussion) who wrote the screenplay for the Netflix crime drama. Tonality wise, the approach of the movie is being described as the Shakespearean court intrigue between The Council's king, Nicky Barnes, dubbed `Mr. Untouchable` by the New York Times, and the rest of the Council. There's no director attached to the project as of now.
Will Smith starred as Genie in Guy Ritchie's 'Aladdin' this year and will be seen as Henry Bogan in Ang Lee's sci-fi action movie 'Gemini Man,' and reprise his role as Mike Lowrey in 'Bad Boys For Life.'
