After the success of "Aladdin" producers, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will now bring the cartoon detective "Inspector Gadget" for a live-action treatment. Former "Saturday Night Live" writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell have been hired to pen a screenplay.
"Inspector Gadget" follows the adventures of a powerful but dimwitted cyborg police inspector named Gadget as he investigates the criminal schemes of Dr.Claw and his organization, MAD, as they fruitlessly attempt to stop him. However, neither side is aware that it is Gadget's niece, Penny, and her dog, Brain, who are truly responsible for thwarting the MAD organization.
"Inspector Gadget" has already been made into a live-action movie in 1999. Directed by David Kellogs and written by Kerry Ehrin and Dana Olsen, it starred Matthew Broderick as a security guard whose dreams come true when he is selected to be transformed into a cybernetic police officer. The movie was universally panned.
