"Aquaman" and "Black Mirror" actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast in a lead role in the much-awaited fourth installment of `The Matrix` franchise. Abdul-Mateen will be seen as one of the parallel leads alongside Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss, who will be returning to reprise their roles from the first movie.
`The Matrix 4` will be written and directed by the Wachowskis, with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell doing additional word on the screenplay. Wachowski is also producing with Grant Hill. The film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020, with Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures producing and looking after the global distribution.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has also appeared in movies `Baywatch,` `The Greatest Showman on Earth,` and `Us` and his television credits include `The Get Down` and `The Handmaid's Tale.` He will also be seen in Aaron Sorkin's `The Trial of Chicago Seven` and Damon Lindeloff's `Watchmen` series for HBO.
